At right, an artist's rendition of a group of ichthyosaurs (img url: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b3/Ichthyosaur_hharder.png). Reminscent of organisms seen on earth today, ichthyosaurs are actually quite different from extant marine vertebrates. Despite their appearance they are not related to fish or cetaceans. Ichthyosaurs are one of three types of super predators from the mesozoic ocean and have been fascinating paleontologists for almost 200 years.
